Choose Circle in the Crop Image tool, drag the highlighted crop over the subject, resize it from a corner, and process the image. PNG or WebP is used so pixels outside the circle can stay transparent. Open Crop Image.
A true circle needs transparent corners
Image files are still stored on rectangular canvases. A circular crop therefore keeps the pixels inside the circle and makes the surrounding corner area transparent. If those corners were filled with a solid color instead, the file would look circular only against a matching background.
PNG and WebP can preserve transparency, which is why they are appropriate outputs for this workflow.
Drag the circle directly over the subject
Start with Circle, then drag inside the highlighted area to move it. Pull a corner to resize the selection while watching the live preview. Keep important features away from the edge if the crop will be used as an avatar or profile graphic.
The 1:1 relationship is built into the circular shape, so you do not need to manually calculate a square crop before choosing Circle.
Choose Circle or Square based on where the asset will be used
Some websites display square uploads inside a circular interface automatically. In that case, a square crop may give the platform more flexibility. A true circle crop is useful when the transparent shape itself must be part of the exported file.
Keep the original image so you can create different crops later without starting from an already trimmed version.
Use shared framing only when subjects are positioned similarly
Apply to all is useful for repeated product shots, portraits, or graphics where the subject sits in a similar relative position. For mixed photos, switch to individual editing and move the circle separately on each important image.
Review the exported transparency on the background where the image will actually be used.
Common questions
Can JPG store a transparent circular crop?
No. JPEG does not support alpha transparency, so a true circular crop with transparent corners needs a format such as PNG or WebP.
Can I move the circle by dragging it?
Yes. Drag inside the highlighted crop to move it and pull a corner to resize it.
Can I crop many images into circles?
Yes. Reuse one setup for similarly framed images or edit individual images when subject placement differs.
Does a circle crop change the original file?
No. The tool creates a new output and leaves the source file unchanged.
